Island Finance Trinidad cleans Mayaro beach

Island Finance is happy to announce its participation in the Annual International Coastal Clean-up Day which was held on September 16th at Mayaro beach. The aim of the campaign was to help clean up and preserve the marine ecosystem by removing plastic and other waste materials from the coastline. The garbage that reaches our seas represents a serious threat to the well-being of the country since the majority is made up of plastics that do not biodegrade. Over time these plastics break into smaller pieces, and we end up ingesting them, not only in shellfish, but also in water and other products.

This event was significant as we collaborated with several other organizations that share our vision of a cleaner world. “The beach is an essential ecosystem. When we litter it with trash, we harm the environment, marine wildlife, and ourselves. One hundred volunteers worked in teams to collect trash from the beach, sort it out, and dispose of it appropriately. We collected 70 bags of trash which is mainly plastic.” said Rehana Khan, Country Manager.

“Together, we can do our part in keeping our beaches clean and preserving the ocean’s ecosystem. We are pleased to be able to contribute our time and effort during this important day for the environment of our country,” Ms. Khan added.
